THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS OCTOBER 24, 5PM
The Gateway Community Youth Chorus is a community choir of students grades 2nd through 8th which performs regularly throughout the Mt. Sterling community and beyond. This group was a staple of our region for many years, and the Gateway Regional Arts Center was excited to support its reestablishment last spring. The group is under the direction of Mr. Ross Haney, the Music Teacher and Choir Director at Nicholas County Elementary School in Carlisle, KY. The purpose of this choir is to represent our region at events and concerts throughout the year with the joy of singing. This is not a replacement for a student’s music class or choir through their school, but rather an extension. GCYC gives students the opportunity to have various additional experiences making music. There are no auditions for the Gateway Community Youth Chorus, and we welcome students from all around to join us for an exciting Fall 2023 Season! Below you will find some of the policies associated with being a member of our choir.
GCYC Non-Negotiables
The GCYC will rehearse every Tuesday evening from 6:00pm-7:00pm starting on September 12th with the last rehearsal of the season on December 14th unless otherwise stated in advance by Mr. Haney. Extra practices may be added before performances, and Mr. Haney will communicate this via Remind and a newsletter several weeks in advance.
We want as many students as possible to participate in the Gateway Community Youth Chorus. If you are concerned about the financial aspect of this group, please go ahead and finish filling out this form and email Sinclaire Marie at outreach@grackentucky.org for more information about financial support we may be able to offer.
Membership in GCYC is $75 for the months of October, November, and December. Membership fees must be paid all at once by our first rehearsal unless you are requesting financial assistance.
Attendance at all rehearsals and performances are required and essential to our success as a group.
If a student needs to be absent from rehearsal for any reason, a guardian of the student should communicate within 24 hours of practice if possible (Emergencies happen and are understood!)
If a student misses more than two practices without a parent contact in advance or four total practices for any reason, they may be removed from choir and will not be provided a refund of their membership fees.
