OUR MISSION

The Ambassador Initiative, Gateway Regional Arts Center’s transformative volunteer program

is dedicated to nurturing a vibrant arts community. GRAC Ambassadors serve as champions for the

vast network of supporters who grace our big yellow building. We celebrate your individuality as you

weave your unique talents and passions into our programming, allowing our patrons to blossom

through artistic expression, social connection, and affordable access to arts education.

By stepping into this role, you commit to empowering individuals in a safe and inclusive environment.

Whether your passion lies in teaching, program support, or connecting with fellow art enthusiasts,

“All the Arts for All the People.”

we invite you to embark on this meaningful journey of shared creativity.

Together, we'll ignite our vision: 'All the Arts for All the People.’

Celebrating stories through connection, creation, and the power of community.

  • You may see us using “volunteer” and “ambassador” interchangeably, as they essentially describe the same dedicated individuals who devote their time and passion to GRAC. The term “ambassador,” however, highlights a greater emphasis on being an active advocate and representative of our mission and work within the wider community. This might involve sharing your experiences, inviting others to our events, and being a champion for the arts and cultural exchange we foster through program and behind-the-scenes support.

  • We provide comprehensive one-on-one training for all new GRAC ambassadors. Training will cover all aspects of the ambassador’s role, including an overview of the volunteer handbook, expectations, how to navigate the volunteer portal. We will equip you with the knowledge and tools you need to excel in your role and will leave you feeling ready to make a significant contribution to the success of our organization.

  • While we appreciate any and all help, our goal if for ambassadors to commit to volunteering at least 4 hours each month. This usually equates to one event. We understand that schedules can be busy, so we offer flexibility in scheduling these hours.

  • For public events, our dress code for ambassadors is all black, complete with a provided nametag and the choice of either a GRAC bowtie or ascot to add a touch of personality while maintaining a unified and professional appearance.

For behind-the-scenes support, clean and comfortable attire may be worn, provided it is free from offensive language.

    • Early access to big-ticket events

    • Free entry to events while working

    • Access to Ambassador merch

    • Discounts on classes & events, as well as recognition for your achievements when reaching certain milestones

Frequently Asked Questions

  • "I've been a GRAC volunteer since the beginning! It's special to be one of the original volunteers. My mom inspired me to get involved in the arts. More people visit the center now than ever before, and I love greeting them. I'm a people person and I enjoy meeting and talking to others. I've had great experiences volunteering at events like the Prom Party and gallery openings. As a volunteer, I want to support the staff and ensure things run smoothly."

  • My volunteer experiences at Summer Stock and my work as a lights and sound tech have been incredibly rewarding. Both roles have provided me with a sense of fulfillment and community. The constant stream of events and the multitude of tasks involved in both areas keep me engaged and feeling valued. Even after an event concludes, there's always more to do, which makes me feel needed and appreciated.

  • “I greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Gateway Regional Arts Center! The place is simply beautiful. As the staff & community continue to grow here so shall the ground itself. Thank you so much to the GRAC Team for participating and helping host the Earth Day Event. I believe the staff there is doing an amazing job. Thank you for your passion, kind words and hard work!"

    - Jacob Garrett

  • "I helped with the Derby event this year by helping to set tables and fix the arrangements. I think it was impactful for the community by giving people a place to watch the derby that may not otherwise have anywhere to watch."

  • I started my volunteer journey with GRAC through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. I’ve assisted on a variety of programming including the statewide Student Art Show, Earth Day celebration, and gallery installations & receptions. Most recently I was able to help with the Eastern KY Visual and Performing Arts College Fair. Speaking with exhibitors and students, helping them navigate the event, and watching them engage in informative workshops was super rewarding. We even got to try our hand at Chinese Fan Dancing, which was a lot of fun for everyone. GRAC is a great place to learn and grow, from helping the community, to challenge yourself to try something new. I’ll always cherish the friends and memories I have made and look forward to many more.💜
