Permanent Collection
At Gateway Regional Arts Center
The Ruth Hunt Wood Foundation began in 2001 with the goal to advance the appreciation and preservation of contemporary Kenyan art. In collaboration with the Department of Art at the University of Kentucky, ten artists from Kenya have traveled to Kentucky and each artist donated one piece that is now known as The Contemporary Kenyan Art Collection.

The Muse
by Federico Pizzurro
The Muse by Federico Pizzurro: Education is the underlying mission of the Gateway Regional Arts Center. The basic theme of this work, therefore, is a call to awareness, an invitation by a Muse to public participation. While the design elements on the concave panel reflect the ways of contemporary expressions, the female figure, rendered in a classical style, stands as a reminder to the aspiring creative mind that abstract statements are better realized by first experiencing the classical disciplines of the past. Thus, the reason for combining two seemingly conflicting styles.
